Idyllic views, crystal-clear waters revealing multicolored corals, jungles resonating with birdsong, and villages hidden in the meanders. We hear the sound of paddles gliding across the water, canoes emerging on the horizon. Warm encounters, mutual curiosity, sharing, and discovery with the inhabitants of hidden villages and small communities rarely visited by Westerners.

A unique journey to remote lands

Join us for this expedition cruise aboard a Ponant ship, privatized exclusively for our group. The cruise begins and ends in Cairns, Australia. We will sail to the islands of Papua New Guinea for a 10-night voyage aboard Le Soleal.

Accompanied by expert naturalist guides, you will enjoy a memorable experience as we explore the remote lands, isolated tribes, heavenly beaches, and exceptional biodiversity of Papua New Guinea, a fascinating country with a thousand cultures.

Some highlights of the itinerary

From Tufi, we'll take a traditional canoe trip through the "fjords" of Cape Nelson. We'll visit the remote Tami Islands archipelago. We'll discover the cultures and traditions of the Morobe region and the traditional ceremonies of the Asaro Mudmen of the Madang region. We'll learn about the colonial history of Samarai Island and Papua New Guinea during World War II. We'll swim and snorkel in the warm, tropical waters of the Solomon Sea, and explore the idyllic Lusançay Islands. Excursions and landings will be by Zodiac, led by an experienced team of naturalist guides.

Natural Wonders and Sublime Coral Reefs

Papua New Guinea is home to 5% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity and 10% of the world's coral reefs and marine biodiversity. Numerous endemic species inhabit its tropical forests and seabed.

Scuba diving enthusiasts will have the opportunity to discover the fascinating marine life of this region with an experienced instructor.

Ceremonies and Ancestral Traditions

Ceremonies play a crucial role in Papua New Guinean culture. Not only do they strengthen community bonds, but they also celebrate important events and perpetuate traditions. These rites serve to integrate individuals into the community, to thank the gods for bountiful harvests, or to appease malevolent spirits. During these special and significant moments, the community gathers to escape the daily routine, expressing its attachment to its ancestors and recreating acts of the past. By regularly celebrating these rites, people seek to maintain harmony in the world.
